Wood Slat Poster Display

I love when I get asked to help create your visions
I received a message from a sweet gal asking me to help her create a Wood Slat Poster sign.
Her vision was to create a sign using a poster of the Beatles.
I started by measuring her poster and then using wood from my shop to cut and put together the board as you see above.

I made sure and assembled the pallet boards at least 1/2" apart so that you can see in between the boards.
Using Modge Podge and a sponge brush we put the Modge Podge directly onto the wood first then applied the pieces of the poster to each pallet.
Here is sweet Brecken holding her completed sign
Turned out pretty awesome!
Thank you for trusting me with your vision!

Embroidered Pillow

Last monday's post I showed you these carved stamps that we made at the retreat I was at in Camano Island
I used all the carved stamps Stephanie had made to create the image on the muslin we were given.
I decided to turn it into a pillow and I finally finished it this week!

I decided to only use four neutral colors and mostly embroidered the hearts.
I used a pillow that I had laying around and sewed it all up.
I loved how it turned out and love all of Stephanie's stamps I used.

The heart is the carved stamps we made, once I stamped all the images on my muslin I decided to darken it with sharpie

You can do this with any stamps and muslin and a stamp pad
Once you have it all stamped choose your embroidery colors and start to stitch your images.
Last year when we did embroidery Stephanie had brought all kinds of printed fabric that we embroidered all the different images.
Many options!

Finishing up

Last weekend while I was at Camano Island
we tried our hands at carving stamps.
Once we carved them we were given muslin
to stamp the images on and then stitch embroider
where ever you wanted color

We used a product called Moo Carve and carving tools
we started by drawing out our images then transferring them
onto the Moo carve, then carefully carving them out.

The above stamps were carved by Stephanie who taught our class
I used the majority of her stamps to stamp my muslin piece
I wasn't able to stay the entire weekend and wanted to be
sure to get the piece stamped so I could work on it later

Later has meant this weekend while we have been away in the mountains.  What a perfect time to stitch!
I went over all the stamped images with sharpie, not sure why,
I just felt like it needed to be darker for my liking

I chose some neutral colored embroidery threads to
add.  Once I finish I plan on turning it into a pillow

I just did a few basic stitches that I learned when I was a little girl
French knot, satin stitch and a cross stitch
Super fun going back to remembering as a girl stitching in the living room watching TV with my Mom as we worked on embroidery pillow cases for gifts for family

How fun to try something you haven't done in a long time!!!
Hopefully I will stayed focused on finishing, hard for me to sit still and stitch, got to admit it!  owning it friends, owning it!

Franklin Falls

This is beautiful Franklin Falls just outside of Seattle off of I-90
We did this hike Mother's day weekend and with it being Memorial weekend and the kickoff for the summer upcoming season I thought I would share this hike in hopes you might try it

It's a very easy hike with maintained trails while walking along you have the full run off of water to the left of you all the way up to the falls.
With it being early in the year and the run off from  winter, the water was raging.

This hike is 2.0 miles roundtrip, no lie, super easy
It's highest elevation is 2600ft with a gained 400 ft at the end.
The region is the Snoqualimie region just below the pass at the Denny Creek exit.

Even though temperatures were 85 that day, we still encountered plenty of left over winter snow and ice on the hike.

We also saw a lot of large old trees

You can see the raging water just behind us in this pic
There were so many areas where you could walk out onto the large river rock and feel like you were standing right in the river next to you

If you are looking for something adventuring to do this weekend I hope you will try Franklin Falls if you are local.
If your coming to visit, you must go too!
It will not disappoint.  There is plenty of parking at the trailhead and it really is a easy hike.
Get out there and explore!
