Chalkboard seasoning

We just added a new white brick wall and chalkboard
to our butler's pantry, and I am so excited about how it turned out!
Here is the room before the remodel,
it was a room with these windows and on the opposite side
is a washer/dryer....

Here is the new space!
What a difference!

So we decided to add the white brick to the entire wall
on the right as well as add a chalkboard.

A friend of mine built all of the this and did the
remodel.  He is beyond talented with both
his carpentry skills and the ability to visualize
my ideas.

Back to the new chalkboard,
anytime you have a new chalkboard whether you
build one or buy one.  One thing you should do
before writing on it is season your board.
The reason in doing this is whether you have painted your board
yourself with chalkboard paint or bought a chalkboard the
reason behind "seasoning" it is due to the board being very porous,
so if you choose not to season it when you write on your board
it will absorb the majority of your chalk.

On to how to season your board.
Starting with a piece of chalk on it's side
start vertically shading the board from one side to another.
Once you have completed vertically seasoning it, now
doing the same process season it horizontally.   The reason for
doing it both ways it to make sure you didn't miss any spots.
You can see below what mine looks like....

Once you are done take a towel and wipe away all the
chalk and make sure you get all the dust cleaned up.
Now you're ready to write on your board!
Which I have yet to do!
I have to think of something fun to write!
