Homemade Valentines

Who says we are too old for old fashioned handmade

Valentines?   Not me!

I showed about three years ago how to make these yarn hearts 

here on my blog so I thought I would make some pink ones this year,

(using up pink yarn I have on hand) to make some. 

I always have my cream ones out on display all year round and whenever someone new comes over they want to know where I got them.  Well,  you can make them!

So I decided to give them to the gals in my women's group for Valentine's day.

I got online and found this pretty angel image and printed it

out and stamped "nothing fancy just love" on it and cut around it.

I grabbed some 5 x 7" cello bags and added the made

yarn hearts and the little valentine.  

So sweet don't you think?

After I got the hearts all  "wrapped" I stamped a little tag

that reads "love" and used a vintage safety pin to attach

to the heart.  If you don't have a vintage safety pin then 

the gold or silver ones would look just as nice.

Yarn Hearts

With Valentines day just around the corner

I finally took down my paper snowflakes and decided

to add some Valentine's decor.

I made these cute yarn hearts and even though I used 

some natural colors, they sure will look adorable in

red and pink too!

I have some blue decor in my home too so I made

these four different colors. 

Aren't they cute!

Here they are up close,

one is all creme colored, one is creme with

speckles of mustard and black and the other is mustard colored.

The skeins of yarn I found at the Dollar Tree.

To make these hearts start with 

either cardboard or what I had on hand which 

is foam core board.  Use what you have on hand!

Hand draw a heart on your cardboard

or foam core board, cut it out.

Then using your yarn, tape it to the back of the heart.

Start by wrapping the yarn around the heart, keep

going til you have the heart completely covered.

Take the last piece of yarn to the back of the heart and

tie off by making a knot.  

Just keep going, back and forth like in 

the photo above.....

Here they are all done below,

scatter them around your tables or in bowls

or just sitting out.

I am going to try pick up some red and pink 

yarn this week to make some

Valentine ones.

Although when I shared them before I showed them in bright pink and red and white.  This time I decided to make them in neutral colors. 

I was able to find the cotton skeins of yarn at the Dollar Tree if you can believe it!  They had so many colors and the yarn is very soft.

More Yarn hearts

Happy friday!

I shared these yarn hearts with you just a few posts back

in a neutral palette. These are the colors that are in my living

with also a pop of navy.

I thought it would be fun to try some traditional colors for

Valentine's day. 

They are so pretty!

I ended up adding little love tags with mini gold safety pins.

Right now the Dollar tree has an amazing collection

of colored yarn, hard to pick just on!

Galentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

It was a fun day celebrating "galentine's" day with a group of amazing gals that constantly push me in life and pour out so much. 

What I didn't know was that they secretly at the end of lunch

surprised me with a birthday suprise! 

Everyone brought salads and treats, we made a charcuterie dessert

board but I forgot to take a picutre of it! 

But, this was sure fun to try....

Have you seen butter candles? 

I had seen a few of these on Instagram and thought how fun would that be!

You make them by melting your butter,

 (I used a cube since there were only 7 of us)

and poured it into a plastic drinking cup.  Use one of the following for the wick;  an edible wick, hemp twine, or regular kitchen twine.

Cut a piece that's long enough for your cup size and using a chop stick or pencil tie the wick at the top and set it right into the butter.

I also added fresh little sprigs of rosemary to the butter.

Now move to the frig and let set.

When it's solid run under warm water for 10 secs and it will slide out.

Put it on a plate and garnish the plate, light the candle and dip your bread and enjoy! 

Isn't that something!

It was a hit!

I showed you these macaron's a few days ago that I found at Costco,

I put each in the plastci dome and had them on plates at the table.

I try and always use what I have on hand.

You probably recognize the pink yarn hearts in the center and

the dried sprigs from my yard.

I used my gauze runner in white for the center and scattered

conversation candy hearts in the center. 

Do you remember these candle holders I show you how to make a few weeks ago?  They are back too.  Look around and see what you have that you can put on your tables instead of thinking you have to go buy new things to make it festive.

Easter Decor

Sharing a little Easter sideboard decor today.

It's gloomy and gray here today, I hope you are sitting

in sunshine wherever you are!

I found this cute little wooden bunny at Home Goods,

the wooden beads were even attached. 

So natural and cute. 

I just stacked a book and the bowl which is from Target.

The yarn hearts I made last year for Valentine's day but

decided to leave them in the bowl for added texture. 

The smoke glass vase is also from Target.

I try to put a wide range of textures together and am

loving the warmer tones I chose.

I haven't really decorated much for Easter as it's early, 

but I like to start putting small things together.

Moody vibes

Happy friday!

Changing things up and warming things up making my space a bit more "moody"  This past month of January has been so long and gloomy here and now that we've moved into February it too has been a slow start.

Instead of spending more money to change things up I like to look around the house to either move things around or change them up.

I made those yarn hearts last february and decided to pull them out and add them to this low profile wood bowl adding beads from my shop. 

The book was on a shelf, so I moved it over as well to add a little height. 

The vase with olive colored eucalyptus greens were on my fireplace hearth and needed a new place.  I also add the framed picture. 

These wooden candlesticks were given to me for Christmas 

from my daughter.  With some searching I found these very realistic

wax battery operated tapers. 

They are lit in the photo, I love the glow they put off.  The take one AAA battery and last for hours.
